ENCIRCLED | Travel in Style with Luxe Comfort, Sustainable Fashion

written by JILL March 26, 2017

I discovered Encircled about a year ago during one of my Instagram binging nights. I was instantly drawn to them because of their casual athleisure style and the fact that they were fellow Canadians!  From then to now I’ve spent sometime researching who they are and I’ve been blown away with how committed to conscious and responsible production they are within their entire company. The fabrics they use are eco-conscious, they ship using recyclable materials and produce their clothes onshore in their factory in Toronto, Canada. Encircled takes a slow and mindful approach to sustainable fashion design, producing garments that are versatile, stylish, lightweight and focus on comfortable fabrics that travel well.

I must say, this outfit is probably the most comfortable and softest I’ve worn to date and I have been very impressed with how versatile this outfit can be dressed up or dressed down!

Dressy Sweats | Size Large: These pants are so versatile, it’s great to dress up or dress down and a perfect eco-conscious fabric that’s lightweight and so comfy. Made with Modal fabric it’s sleek enough to be dressed up for work or going out but casual and lightweight making it ideal for dressing it down with sneakers and a jean jacket or even lounging at home.

I chose a size large (I’m normally size 29″ waist) and they do fit great, but could have afforded to go a size down. They are very high waisted and I wanted a bit of a looser fit for the semi-drop crotch.

The Wanderer Sleeveless Tee | Size Large: This is the most comfortable well fitting eco-friendly sleeveless t-shirt that I’ve ever put on. It’s a perfect cut that’s flattering for almost every body type, and long enough to be worn casually, or  tucked in for a more dressy look.

I chose a size large (I’m usually size Medium) because I wanted a bit of a looser fit. Again the Medium would have fit great and a bit more tight around the waist. I would say they fit true to size so go for what you usually get and if you want a bit more of a looser fit then size up (however, just note that the material is very stretchy so you won’t have to worry about squeezing into it at all).

SUSTAINABLE FASHION

ENCIRCLED is committed to sustainability in basically every aspect of their company in order to leave a lighter footprint on the planet. They produce their garments in Canada using North American suppliers, use eco-friendly cleaning materials to keep their factory tidy, use paperless where-ever possible and if they have to use paper they use 100% recycled paper and vegetable/water based inks. To top it all off they use Green Website Hosting via Netfirms which is a web hosting company that uses offices 100% powered by wind energy. I think this is incredible and I will certainly be switching over once our web-hosting expires!

ENCIRCLED has bought into the growing trend of complete transparency with their supply chain. A huge part of this supply chain is fabric selection and garment design. The fabrics they use are thoughtfully selected, premium sustainable materials: Modal, Tencel, and Bamboo which are all known for their soft luscious feel and low pilling tendencies and only low-impact dyes are used in the production process.

CANADIAN LOVE

Get a load of these stats from the ENCIRCLED website. In 1989 when Luke was 5 years old over 70% of clothing worn in Canada, was made here in Canada. Today it’s less than 5%!!! Encircled is 100% made in Toronto, Canada. Check out this cool inforgraphic from their site below.

Luke and I are Canadians, and I have to say that finding ethical apparel brands from Canada has been a challenge thus far. There seems to be a boatload of sustainable European options, ethical American brands and fashionable Australian eco-friendly companies but not too many Canadian brands. It’s exciting to find Canadian brands like Encircled on the forefront of ethical fashion.

Go check out more of their collection and shop these looks and more below.
