Inspirational Quotes | 3 Reasons Why They Inspire Me

Log onto any form of social media and spend five minutes scrolling and you’ll run into some form of a quote. Quotes always invoke some sort of a response from people, some love inspirational quotes as they provoke thought, others find joy in silly quirky quotes and others sarcastically hate the superficial nature of quotes and scoff at those that enjoy them.

Personally, I am a fan of a good quote. I love quick snippets of information that make you think, so inspirational quotes are my personal favorite. In my free time, I often enjoy watching documentaries, read books and watch movies that are inspirational in nature and provoke feeling and thought. Like any good stereotypical millennial, my attention span can be fairly short. Long movies, 10-minute sob stories, lengthy articles, seminars, and workshops often bore me but quick thought-provoking inspirational quotes can have me stop, pay attention and just simply ponder its meaning. There is so much information available in our generation, we often have too much information. The nice thing about a good inspirational quote is that it’s short, sweet and straight to the point. If you like the quote you can always go read more on the subject and invest your time.

Inspirational Quotes | Inaccurate Cliches?

There is certainly a long list of critiques for sharing inspirational quotes.

1| They are Inaccurate

Some of these points do have merit as many quotes are often misattributed to the wrong person or completely made up altogether. I am quite sure I have posted a quote improperly attributed. Having realized this I now try and take the time to research whether the quote actually was said by the person attached to it.

2| They are Easy to Post and Unoriginal

This one also has some merit as it takes very little effort to share an inspirational quote and it is borrowing a line from somebody else! I try and share quotes that I truly find inspiring, funny, witty or challenging and keep that authentic. They may not be my quotes but If I share a quote that means something to me then it is revealing a part of who I am and what motivates me.

3| They Change Nothing

If you feel this way then you most likely believe that words mean nothing. Perhaps your more inspired by actions, art, travel or something else! That is certainly ok as we are all built slightly different. Some of us folks, however, are inspired by words and encouragement or criticism affects us on a deeper level. A well-timed quote can give me the fuel I need to get through a tough task that I’m facing. I believe that words have the power to build up or destroy and inspirational quotes sometimes do the same. 3 Reasons Why I love Inspirational Quotes

1| They are a Food for the Conscious Soul

Some days it’s hard to get going. So how do you get going? Some people pray, meditate, do yoga or workout and it helps them get moving. I have and do all those things but I have found what fires me up and gives me purpose are inspirational quotes and videos. I need to be reminded daily why I’m doing what I’m doing and hear stories from others who have succeeded or failed. It’s amazing what the right quote will do for me. Today I was struggling to feel inspired and I stumbled upon this quote:

There is a voice that doesn’t use words, listen.”

I was struggling with some financial decisions but reading this quote for some reason helped me settle down and listen to my gut. I often experience this with quotes, videos or words and find that they can be food for my soul.

2| They Connect People

Words can tear people apart or bring them together. Inspirational quotes bring people with similar dreams and hopes together.

3| They Can Become a Rallying Cry

The best inspirational quotes can be mottos that you base your life off of. One of my personal favorites: ‘Will this matter a year from now?’ has been something I have allowed to influence the way that I live. People are often scared to take chances because they don’t want to make a mistake or look stupid, yet most often the people around them could care less. We often blow up things way out of proportion and give ourselves too much credit, most people won’t care what you do. Try to remember what you did in the past year, how many things come to mind? Maybe you remember a good holiday, a raise at work or perhaps you started a new business, maybe a fun night out with friends, a wedding, a death in the family or perhaps a really good birthday. These are the kind of things your gonna remember, most things will be forgotten. Thus I try and live with that quote in mind, if it really won’t matter that much a year from now why not take the risk and not be afraid.

If you allow a favorite quote to influence you, it really can help you make an important change in your life.
