One of the first brands we stumbled across in our conscious fashion journey was Alternative Apparel. They make soft, simple sustainable basics using post-consumer recycled polyester and organic materials. We were gifted some items from their new Eco Line ‘Soft by Nature’ which features these sustainable garment methods and materials along with a few other great, comfortable pieces that they sell. We took them with us on our digital detox adventure camping the other day which were the perfect outfits to wear during our time out in the wild!

I picked a few fun items perfect for chilling around the campfire. First I got the Smoky Mountain Eco-Jersey Baseball Tee made with organic & recycled materials (from the new Eco line). Also I nabbed a pair of the Rayon Challis Paneled Shorts which are perfect lightweight shorts for the summer, and finally the Dad Cap for those days when I just don’t feel like doing my hair, haha.

I picked a sweet pair of Jogger Pats from Publish which are slim fit and so darn comfy (even Jill like’s to wear them) and my second item is the Miggy Organic Tank Top from the new Alternative Eco Line: Soft by Nature.

This new line of clothing from Alternative Apparel is carefully made in a sustainable manner using responsible materials and packaging. Clothing in this line is made from: recycled poly, organic cotton and dyed using low-impact dyes, biodegradable fabric softeners and is washed with reclaimed water. When the piece is finished it is distributed using biodegradable bags.

The lifecycle of the garment is certainly started off in the right way with Alternative Apparel’s ‘Eco Line’.

A fair, safe and clean workplace is something that matters to Alternative Apparel, as the majority of their factories are WRAP-certified and every factory follows a code of conduct set in place by the Fair Labour Association.

As I was browsing the Alternative BLOG I stumbled upon a fascinating article explaining the G2 Eco-wash method which basically uses up to 60% less energy and water finishing clothes compared to other more traditional methods.

The G2 Eco wash method reduces water and chemical use in finishing garments which produces a soft, delicate, broken in feel. It is an all-in-one washing machine that uses ‘ozone technology’ to transform air into a blend of active oxygen and ozone. This creates ‘plasma’ which is then used with water to wash and finish garments. Once the finishing process is complete the plasma is converted back into air and released into the atmosphere.

I love that Alternative Apparel is searching for new innovative ways to bring sustainable methods, materials, and practices into their clothing and company makeup, it’s pretty inspiring stuff.
